Joint meeting of the
LIA World Trade Council & Education Committees
Tuesday, May, 11, 2010 @ 8:30am
LIA Headquarters, 300 Broadhollow Road
Speakers: Dr. Alina Feld
Director of Senior Studies
The Global College of Long Island University
Topic: “Functioning Effectively in the Global Society”
It barely needs repeating that the United States, with only 4% of the world’s population, has become highly dependent on effective functioning in what has become a global society. On every front....political, military, trade, health, pollution, disasters, tourism, education, climate, global warming, water, terrorism, immigration, crime and others we are now operating on a higher plateau where we are interacting daily with diverse people and cultures. The joint meeting of the Education Committee and the World Trade Council will address the issue of cultural understanding and language as a key factor for effective relationships in the new Global Society. In the world of international trade, where the United States must now sell its product and services strengths as never before, speaking the local language becomes critical in terms of personal and business relationships. Our speaker on May 11 will be Dr. Alina Feld, who is the Director of Senior Studies of the Global College of Long Island University. Her expertise, background and multilingual capabilities have led to her current specialization on the subject of "Cross-Cultural Understanding for a Globalizing World". She obtained her B.A. from the State University of Bucharest, her M.A. from Stony Brook and her PhD from Boston University
